ZIKA Virus

There are only a few cases of Zika in Louisiana, but we need to be aware and proactive in preventing its spread. Visit the CDC website listed below or contact NSU Health Services at (318)-357-5351 for more information.

Zika primarily spreads through infected mosquitoes, but you can also get Zika through sex.

The best way to prevent Zika is to prevent mosquito bites.
• Use EPA-registered insect repellent. It works!
• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
• Stay in places with air conditioning or window and door screens.
• Remove standing water around your home.

Zika is linked to birth defects.

Pregnant women should not travel to areas with Zika.

Returning travelers infected with Zika can spread the virus through mosquito bites.
